7 Remarkable Ways Healthy Eating Has Changed Me Forever

7 Remarkable Ways Healthy Eating Has Changed Me Forever The following is a guest post by Supraja Sirala.   Her bio follows. I realized that the food I was eating kept me full, but wasn’t doing much to aid my health. I love fried goodies, but a couple of hours after gulping down those fries, I could literally trace my food pipe. It burnt, and I knew exactly which route my food had taken to reach my tummy â€" because the entire thing was on fire! I used to have severe bouts of acidity, and that’s what got me thinking about my food choices. For many of us, eating is our hobby, occupation, and motivation to wake up. We all work hard to be able to afford four (or more) meals a day, and it’s only food that keeps us alive and kicking. Apart from water, of course! However, it’s essential to understand that we shouldn’t eat just for the sake of eating. Our food consumption has to aim at better health, obviously. I switched gears to healthy eating, and my life hasn’t been the same since then. How, you ask? Here are seven ways in which healthy eating changed my life. Weight Control As a kid, I was extremely lean. When we’d bump into people, they’d giggle and ask my mother whether she had stopped giving me food, irking her to no end. She’d drill-feed me a lot of food, but nothing would work. At the other end of the spectrum, I see people trying all they can to shed those extra kilos. One of my friends used to consume fenugreek seeds to lose weight, and she found that it was more effective than pumping iron at the gym. Here’s the deal: eating healthy helps you lose or gain weight. With a controlled and correct diet, your weight issues can be tackled. Increased Productivity Do you feel like snoozing at work immediately after lunch? Or worse still, have you been caught red-handed sleeping at your desk? I’d once slept off at work post lunch, and more than anything else, the cocktail of my guilt pangs and embarrassment put together made me want to hibernate. But I had to live through it until I switched to healthy eating. I’m not the only one who’s gone through this, though. According to a study published by Population Health Management in 2012, an unhealthy diet leads to 66% increased risk of loss of productivity. A healthy diet makes you feel less full, thereby keeping you active and productive. The moral of the story is â€" a healthy lunch and good work mean you won’t get fired! Good Mood Have you noticed that you tend to get irritable after eating certain foods? Your mood and the food you consume are closely related. Don’t believe me? As per research, the higher the blood sugar after eating sugar and refined grains, the higher the risk of depression. On the other hand, studies have also indicated that whole grains do the exact opposite. It has been proved that foods with vitamins and minerals (fruits, whole grains, and vegetables) reduce the risk of depression. Foods rich in omega-3 fats (nuts, salmon, and other fatty fish) do the same job. I’ve been eating healthy for sometime now, and my mood swings are very rare. My husband can vouch for it! Healthy Heart We all know that for a healthy heart, eating healthy is very important. Unhealthy food can cause serious heart issues. Too much sodium or frozen food isn’t good for your heart. Regular consumption of foods that have high fat content could increase your cholesterol and triglyceride levels and cause a build-up of plaque in your arteries. These facts nudged me to continue my healthy eating habits. I include walnuts, almonds, chia seeds, oatmeal, berries, coffee and even chocolate in my diet so that my heart is happy and healthy.   Its also important to provide your kitchen with safe, non-toxic cookware, e.g., carbon steel pans, more traditional cast iron skillets or even stone pans made from granite. Half A Pharmacy For Dinner? No Longer! Most lifestyle diseases like diabetes are the result of unhealthy eating. Desserts are essential and delicious, but over time, excessive quantities could cause you trouble. It could lead to insulin resistance, which converts itself into type 2 diabetes. Since diabetes runs in my family, I wanted to play it safe. Consuming complex carbohydrates (whole grain bread, oatmeal, even brown rice) works wonders. They regulate blood sugar by releasing sugar into the bloodstream. So, instead of consuming half a pharmacy for your dinner, opt to eat healthily! Good Sleep The thing about having healthy food is that you fall asleep at the right time. By the right time, I mean, not while you’re at work, but when you hit the bed. In a world full of insomniacs, it wouldn’t hurt to sleep well. Numbers suggest that in the United States alone, more than 50 million Americans don’t sleep well. And we do know what lack of sleep leads to, don’t we? A few things I incorporate into my diet to ensure that I get my eight hours of sleep time are yogurt, whole grains, bananas, cereals and chickpeas. Look Young, Feel Young Ever since I started eating healthy, the pieces of my health puzzle are falling into place. I’m eating better, getting enough sleep, falling sick less often and have sustained energy. This is one of the reasons why even though I am aging, I look young, and I obviously feel very young too. Of the foods that I consume, some are great for my skin. These include water (obviously), yellow bell peppers, kiwi, eggs, pumpkin, and sunflower seeds. Did I give you enough reasons to ditch the junk and get started on a healthy eating routine? Yes? Great! All the best! About  Supraja Sirala Supraja is a home maker and a full-time mom. Meet Googles New AI-Powered Job Search Engine

Meet Googles New AI-Powered Job Search Engine Google over the past few years has been focused on turning itself into an artificial intelligence company. They have been implementing AI into their platforms in order to improve search results, better translate languages and offer a better overall experience.  For a long time they have stayed out of recruiting, leaving the market for the likes of Indeed, Glassdoor  and LinkedIn,  but now have officially entered the recruitment market with Google for Jobs. Its not a new platform, nor is it a new app. It’s the same Google we love and trust but with much more efficient search parameters for jobs.  Just enter the position youre looking for on Google, and the location, and  voilà you get a whole bunch of suitable jobs without the fuss of signing up to job sites or receiving unrelated jobs sent to your email. Cooperation or Competition? You might be thinking that the likes of LinkedIn and Glassdoor already do the same thing. In terms of helping of helping you find a job, then yes they essentially do. Although Google intends to use it’s high-end machine learning system to sort and categorise suitable jobs from a wide plethora of job sites, big or small, including the ones I just listed. Google will be partnering with already existing companies, such as LinkedIn, Glassdoor, and Monster. One company that wont be partnering with Google is Indeed. Google is looking to use its platform to become the AI-based middle-man for these job sites, aimed at making your job hunt as less of a hassle as possible by accumulating thousands of job positions from across the internet. Once you find a job, Google will direct you to the job site that is advertising the role, so that you can start your application process. If the same job is listed on different sites, Google will direct you to the most complete and detailed post. Erin Wilson, Co-Founder of hirepool, says that: Googles recent commitment to empowering job seekers will shift the entire industrys focus to delivering results. For the recruitment industry and job boards alike, helping people identify more jobs is no longer enough. Google is not only making your job hunt easier, but it is forcing recruiters to be far more specific and detailed in their job posting. Allowing you to have a much clearer understanding of the specificities of the role you are interested in. Below is an example of how it works, told by Google in this tweet: The job search can be tricky. Starting today, people in the U.S. can easily find their next job, right in Search ? https://t.co/TvGIh9VoXd pic.twitter.com/2yKEqfINar Google (@Google) June 20, 2017 Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, said at their Annual I/O Developer Conference in California, 46% of U.S employers say they face talent shortages and have issues filling open job positions. We want to better connect employers and job seekers through a new initiative. Pichai continues by saying that Google have focused on including jobs that have been hard to find, such as those in retail or hospitality. Whether youre in community college looking for a barista job, a teacher relocating across the country, or somebody looking for work in construction, the product should work, Pichai said. What does this mean for recruiters? With so little information, and it being released only a few weeks ago, it’s hard to say what type of effect it will have. Experts in the industry have come out with varied perspectives on the nature of Google for Jobs, and what the implications are for recruiting and beyond. Hung Lee, the co-founder and CEO of Workshape.io says: “Google for Jobs will do for Indeed what Indeed has done for the traditional online job board industry. It is the original content aggregator, so some might say it’s only fitting that it should on that role again for the jobs sector. Paradoxically, this could be good news for online job boards, especially niche sites; the key will be how Google de-duplicates job postings it will probably go with the original site, rather an aggregated profile, which, if true, will simply mean a massive diversion of web traffic from Indeed.com to original job board or career site Furthermore, using the basis of Googles search system, as a recruiter it should not matter what job site you use to advertise your job. The sophistication, specificity and intelligence of Google’s search engine should mean that it will show results of listings that are well-written, seriously detailed and relevant, no matter how big or small your company is.  It’s the same as any type of content you put online. As long as it is well-written and consistent, it will show up organically on Google. That’s the beauty of Google’s search engine. Adam Glassman, the Global Recruitment Strategies Manager at Alorica, has a different perspective and alludes to the disruptive nature of Google for Jobs, and how they intend to monetize it. He says: “Google is eyeballing talent acquisition big-time, and will be a disruptor in the industry. Google Jobs is their first salvo in this effort and I expect it to change where job seekers search. I expect to see a significant shift in traffic away from Indeed, CareerBuilder and others towards the native Google Jobs search experience. What is still unknown is how Google will monetize it (company ads, paid job listings, etc.). If Im Indeed, Im scrambling right now to counter this coming punch. But, when you control the search engine, you have the luxury of stacking the deck in your favor. All in all, Google are doing what they do best, which is help you ‘search’. Making your search for whatever you need far more successful and efficient. Personally whenever I looked for a new job, I always started with Google. In fact, whenever I look for anything I always start with Google. So it’s an idea that makes sense, and one that many would have already seen coming. For now Google for Jobs has been only been released in the United States, with far more countries to follow after that.  We’d love to hear what you think about Google for Jobs, and where you think Google should focus their expertise next! Money Makeover Series Ready to Launch

Money Makeover Series Ready to Launch When it comes to financial planning, goal setting is imperative. But what happens if your goals actually get in the way of each other? Or what if you aren’t able to realistically meet them all at the same time? Only one thing can be done in this situation evaluate. Evaluating is just what our second Money Makeover participant, Mimosa, just did. Mimosa is a relatively new college graduate who’s ready to  launch. She’s got the degree, the job, and now she wants her own apartment. Butthere are a few other things she wants too, such as to pay off her student loan debt as soon as possible. So with all these goals in mind, what’s a girl to do? Evaluate The first thing I did when I studied Mimosa’s budget was tell her that we had to set some priorities. She lives in Toronto which has a high cost of living and makes her dreams of both paying off her student loan debt quickly and moving out on her own difficult to realistically accomplish. We needed to discuss what really matters most to her right now. This is a common problem deciding on your most important goals is more difficult than we usually imagine. How can you decide between several things which all seem equally important? In this case, Mimosa threw me for a loop. I really thought she’d want to pay less per month on her student loans so she could move out on her own but I was wrong. When faced with a choice between her own apartment or paying off her debt faster, she chose to continue paying at her current rate. She wants those student loans outta here! Move Forward I was surprised by Mimosa’s priorities, but I shouldn’t have been. Anytime we sit down to face the cold, hard facts, we may end up making different choices than we thought we would. That’s okay. In fact, that means it’s a good thing you took the time time evaluate! We may think we are focusing on what’s most important, but an evaluation may quickly change our minds. Once you’ve decided on your top priorities, the next most important thing to do is make a plan to move forward. The plan could involve even more difficult choices that you may not have seen coming, but just remember that you’re making these choices so you can meet your financial goals. You’ll be much more satisfied in the long run! The Adjustments Since Mimosa’s top priority is to pay off those student loans first, we had to make adjustments to her current budget. This meant changing the way she saved money, cutting her food and entertainment budget, and starting a temporary shopping freeze. Decrease food/entertainment budget and use a cash envelope system In order to stick to the new, smaller food and entertainment budget, we decided Mimosa should withdraw cash in the amount she’s allowed each month. Then she’ll put the money in two envelopes: one for lunches (which she’s buying on Fridays only now) and one for food and drinks (meaning entertainment with her friends). It can be much easier to stick to a cash system because you literally see when you’re running low on funds, which makes it easier to say no to a purchase in the moment. Then, you can always look for some fun things to do for free on the weekends! Temporary Shopping Freeze The next adjustment to stick to the new budget is a shopping freeze for the remainder of the series. Instead of buying lunch or shopping on her lunch breaks, she’ll grab a book from the library and sit with some tea at a local coffee shop. It’s still spending a little bit of money, but it is also a big improvement that will allow her to have a nice break without walking by all of the stores near her office. Pay Savings First Finally, Mimosa needs to make sure she sticks to her savings goals so she can maintain her debt payoff plan. She’s currently paying enough each month to become student loan debt free in three years. But if she goes over on other areas of her budget, it might be tough to stick to that and still save money each month (which she’ll need to do if she ever wants to move out). Paying savings first means you literally treat your savings account like a bill. You get paid, then deposit your specified monthly amount to savings, then pay your bills, then withdraw what’s left in cash for the food and entertainment budget. By paying savings and bills first, it’s much easier to stay on track! One Step Closer to Reaching Her Goals Now that Mimosa knows what adjustments to make to her financial actions and philosophy, she knows she can stick to her accelerated student loan payments and stay on track for her hopes of becoming debt-free in three years. What do you think of Mimosa’s plan? Have you ever tried paying your savings first or using the cash envelope budget? We’re pretty excited to see how this helps Mimosa like it can do for many others. Don’t forget to leave her some words of encouragement in the comments below!

Drive Your Own Career - CareerAlley

Drive Your Own Career - CareerAlley We may receive compensation when you click on links to products from our partners. If you enjoy driving, and you enjoy making money, then how does a career on the road sound to you? Does a job behind the wheel get your motor racing? Does a livelihood spent driving around get your engine running? Well, fortunately enough there are enough roads that need driving on and enough driving seats that need filling to mean that driving careers are always there. Whats more, driving careers are readily achievable. Before you jump into the drivers seat, however, there are things to consider. First and foremost you have to consider what specific career road you want to take. What kind of sector would your talents be best suited to? If you are very much a people person then becoming a private driver may be for you. In this sector you could be a taxi driver, a chauffeur or even an Uber driver. In being an Uber driver you would be joining one of the biggest growing companies in the world and you would have more control over your working hours. If this sounds like the perfect driving career to you then make sure to head to judymclane.com and check out the questions asked in an Uber interview. By going into an interview prepared you are most definitely getting yourself ahead of the traffic. Uber driver But if youre not a people person then thats okay too. There are a host of other driving careers where there are little to no customer facing roles throughout the day. One such example is the career that is commercial truck or lorry driving. If spending hours upon hours alone on the roads suits you perfectly then this career maybe should be your goal. But to achieve this goal you would have to go through training. Obtaining a CDL (commercial drivers licence) is a necessity for anybody wishing to drive vehicles that weigh more than 26,001 pounds for a living. Also, if anybody wishes to drive a lorry or truck that contains any Select Agents or Toxins then they must possess a CDL Hazmat Endorsement. But if you are sort of a people person (basically, you do like being around people, but not too close), then maybe entering the public sector and becoming a bus driver is for you. Like with becoming a commercial driver, to become a bus driver training and qualifications are needed. But unlike being a commercial vehicle driver, as a bus driver you will be driving around busy city areas throughout the day. You would be taking the same routes hour in, hour out. So if you get bored easily then make sure to give this particular sector a real think before you enter it. Even though some of the driving jobs out there might not be as glamorous as other travelling vocations, such as being a air hostess or even a pilot, it is still travelling. Travelling throughout your working day, even if its just around the roads of your local area, is still travelling. If being out of the office and on the roads every day is your dream, then whats stopping you? We are always eager to hear from our readers.
